The right WATI alternative depends on what your team is missing. Another WhatsApp platform fixes a limit on users or automations. A CRM with WhatsApp built in fixes a different problem: chats that sit in one tool while the customer’s calls and quotes sit in another.
WATI prices by plan, with a fixed number of users and automation triggers, and message fees on top. Most teams start looking elsewhere when one of those limits arrives before the sales process is finished.
We developed BaseCloud CRM, which connects to WATI and also competes with it for some buyers. WATI’s figures come from its own pricing page and help center, and BaseCloud appears in marked places.
What WATI is and what it costs in 2026
What is WATI in WhatsApp?
WATI is a platform for running WhatsApp Business as a team. It sets up the official WhatsApp API connection, then adds a shared inbox, broadcast campaigns, chatbots and click-to-WhatsApp ad tools. The inbox also takes social messages from Meta’s apps and from TikTok, and Shopify stores get abandoned-cart and order templates.
How much does WATI cost?
WATI prices every plan per month on annual billing. Growth costs $59 and includes 3 users, with no option to add more. Pro costs $119 and includes 5 users, with extra users at $39 each per month. Business costs $279 and includes 5 users, with extra users at $89 each per month.
WATI says annual billing takes up to about 25% off and includes free dedicated onboarding. It offers a 7-day free trial with no setup fee. Add-ons are priced on top: 1,000 more automation triggers cost $40 a month, 1,000 AI co-pilot credits cost $30, each extra WhatsApp number costs $29 a month and the Shopify integration costs $4.99. Astra AI agents are sold separately on Pro.
Message fees sit outside every plan. WATI charges per message from a rate card linked on its pricing page, and the rate depends on the message type. The page does not state how much WATI adds to Meta’s own fees, so open the rate card before you budget.
When you need a WATI alternative
The user cap arrives first. A home-services office with eight people on Pro pays $119 for the first 5 seats and $39 for each of the other 3, so $236 a month before a single message goes out. Growth stops at 3 users, which rules it out for any team that grows.
Automation limits are the second wall. WATI counts each automation run as a trigger, and a keyword that starts a chatbot counts as one trigger for the whole flow. Template messages and chatbots started through the API do not count.
Picture a dental practice in Austin whose chatbot greets every new enquiry. At 1,500 new conversations a month, Growth’s 1,000 triggers run out partway through the month. WATI’s help center says automations then stop firing until the billing cycle resets, and upgrading the plan or buying 1,000 more triggers for $40 a month brings them back sooner.
Connecting WATI to your CRM adds a third cost. Growth allows 2 select commerce or CRM integrations and no webhooks. Pro allows 5 integrations including HubSpot, with limited webhooks. Business allows unlimited integrations including Salesforce, with extensive webhooks.
This is where a CRM with WhatsApp built in changes the arithmetic. BaseCloud connects your number straight to Meta’s WhatsApp Business Cloud API, so no second platform subscription sits between your number and your inbox. Every chat is filed under the client record, and plans cover a set number of users: 5 on Foundation and 15 on Growth, with extra users at R1,500$200 a month on those two plans.
Which kind of WATI alternative fits your team
What are some apps similar to WATI?
WATI publishes comparison pages against Interakt and AiSensy, which makes them the first names to check. They are WhatsApp business platforms, the same kind of product, so the same checks apply. Count your users and automations against each plan, then read the message rate card.
Moving to one of them fixes a price or a limit. It leaves your WhatsApp chats where they were, outside your customer records.
Which is better, WATI or Interakt?
WATI publishes a WATI vs Interakt page on its own site, which is where to read its case. We have not tested Interakt. Judge both on the limits that matter to your team, starting with users and automations, and finish with the message rate card.
A CRM with WhatsApp built in
A homeowner messages a plumbing company in Phoenix at 9 p.m. The message lands in the shared inbox, and BaseCloud matches the number to the existing client or creates a new client when the number is unknown. An AI agent replies using the conversation so far and offers a time from your calendar. In the morning the estimator opens the same client record and sees the chat beside the quote and the call recordings.
Setup takes a few settings. You connect the number from BaseCloud’s settings, then create message templates in Meta’s WhatsApp Manager. Threads can be assigned to a person, and unclaimed ones wait in a queue for whoever is free. Our native WhatsApp page covers the details, and AI agents handle the first reply.
Keep WATI and add a CRM
BaseCloud also connects to WATI, so a team that likes WATI’s broadcasts can keep them. The workflow builder has a WATI action with five operations: send a session message, send a template message, send a session file, update a contact and get media.
A tutoring company used this setup to track where its WhatsApp enquiries came from. It found that a Google Ads WhatsApp campaign brought better leads than Meta, and that its cheapest leads were its worst. This setup fixes record-keeping. WATI’s user and trigger caps stay as they are.
What each setup costs for a five-person team
The table compares BaseCloud Foundation with WATI Pro connected to HubSpot Sales Hub Professional. WATI Pro includes 5 users and lists HubSpot among its integrations. HubSpot charges $90 a seat on annual billing and a $1,500 one-time onboarding fee on that tier, according to HubSpot’s pricing page.
| BaseCloud Foundation | WATI Pro with HubSpot Sales Hub Professional | |
|---|---|---|
| Users included | 5 | 5 on WATI, 5 seats on HubSpot |
| Yearly subscription, annual billing | R49,990$6,990 | $6,828 ($1,428 WATI, $5,400 HubSpot) |
| One-time onboarding | R7,500$1,500, waived on a two-year commitment | $1,500 (HubSpot) |
| Built-in phone calling with recording | Included | Included in HubSpot |
| Two-way business texting | Included | Not in HubSpot Sales Hub |
| WhatsApp messages | Billed per message at BaseCloud’s usage rates | Billed per message at WATI’s rate card |
| Where the WhatsApp chat lives | On the client record, in a shared inbox | In WATI, linked to HubSpot by integration |
The subscriptions come out close at five people. The difference is in what each one includes and how many tools your team opens to answer one customer. BaseCloud’s published WhatsApp rates are for messages to South African numbers, and rates for other countries are available on request.
What to check before you move a WhatsApp number
A WhatsApp number connects to one BaseCloud account at a time, and the BaseCloud docs note that a number cannot run on two platforms at once. Your team answers from WATI or from the new tool, not both. Connecting takes a Meta Business Manager account with a WhatsApp Business Account inside it, and a verified phone number.
Templates are the next check. WhatsApp lets you reply freely only to someone who messaged you in the last 24 hours, and anything else goes out as a template Meta has approved. You create templates in Meta’s WhatsApp Manager, and once Meta approves one it appears in the template list in BaseCloud. A template that is no longer approved fails the send instead of going out with a gap, so check the list before you rely on it in a workflow.
A reminder workflow then needs a fallback. Before a workflow sends free text, it can check whether the 24-hour window is still open and send an approved template when it is not. Meta also gives each number a quality rating and a daily messaging limit, which sets how many new conversations you can start in a day.
Where WATI is the better choice
WATI is stronger when the work is outbound campaigns. Growth includes 15,000 broadcasts a month, and Pro and Business include unlimited broadcasts. WATI also captures leads from click-to-WhatsApp ads and recovers abandoned Shopify carts with ready-made templates. A store that messages thousands of shoppers about their carts needs those tools more than it needs quotes and call recording.
WATI’s inbox also takes social messages from Meta’s apps and from TikTok, while BaseCloud’s shared inbox covers WhatsApp and text messages only. A team that answers customers across several social apps may prefer one inbox for all of them.
BaseCloud fits teams whose WhatsApp conversations end in a booked job or a quote. A dental office or a contractor, where the same person is also phoning and texting the customer, gets one record instead of several tools.
If your WhatsApp chats and customer records live in two places, book a demo and we will show a conversation arriving in the shared inbox, matched to the client. You can also read the plans on the pricing page first.
