The BaseCloud Chrome Extension: Drag Files and Click to Call

The BaseCloud card next to a phone number on a website, with a Call button

The BaseCloud extension connects your BaseCloud CRM to the rest of the web. It does two things: it lets you drag a file from the CRM straight onto another website, and it lets you call a phone number you find on any web page. It is free for every BaseCloud user and works in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Add BaseCloud to Chrome

How to install it

  1. Open the BaseCloud extension in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. In Chrome, click Add to Chrome and confirm. In Microsoft Edge, click Get extension, choose Allow extensions from other stores if Edge asks, then click Add extension.
  3. Reload any tabs that were already open, including your BaseCloud tab.

There is nothing to set up and nothing to sign in to. The extension uses the BaseCloud account you are already logged in to in your browser.

Drag CRM files onto other websites

Without the extension, getting a client’s file into another website means downloading it first and then uploading it again. With the extension, you drag it across.

  1. In BaseCloud, open a client’s Files tab, or a Workflow Note with attachments.
  2. Drag the file out of BaseCloud and onto the upload area of the other website, in another tab or window. To move several files at once, select them in the Files tab first.
  3. Drop it. The website receives the file as if it came from your computer.

This works on most upload areas, such as a bank or insurer portal, a supplier’s order form or a government e-filing site. Files of up to 50 MB each are supported. A small number of websites only accept files chosen by hand; on those, download the file from BaseCloud and upload it the usual way.

Call a phone number from any website

  1. Click a phone number link on any web page. If the number is plain text, select it, right-click and choose Call with BaseCloud.
  2. A small BaseCloud card appears next to the number. Click Call.
  3. Your BaseCloud tab comes forward with the number already in the dial pad of your BaseCloud phone. Press Call to start the call.

The extension never dials on its own. You always press Call yourself, so a web page can’t start a call for you. From there it is a normal BaseCloud call, logged like any other.

Privacy and permissions

Chrome will say the extension can read and change data on the websites you visit. It needs that permission because you can drop a file or click a phone number on any site. It looks at a page only at the moment you drop a file or click a number on it. It does not read, record or track your browsing, and it has no analytics. The full details are in the browser extension section of our Privacy Policy.

Removing it

Right-click the BaseCloud icon in your browser’s toolbar and choose Remove from Chrome. Nothing is left behind.
